by BEERMAN, April 29 2008 : 11:25am Some of what you say is true, some of the time - I spent 8 years in a very large PD on the East coast, not important which one, followed by 25 years in a "related field", also not important where, I have seen quite a bit of the "favoritism", abuse of authority, "we can do whatever we want" mentality, and the preverbial "Blue wall" where they protect each other - HOWEVER - let me clarify, this is a small percentage - compared to the legitimate ones that DO do the job right and only want to protect people and help people - they are simply hard working people, dedicate to doing the best they can in a "system" that, by its nature, lends itsaelf to abuse and corruption - luckily, its not as bad now as it has been in the past - check history of how "things were" back in the 1930's - 1940's - 1950's - 1960's - during those periods much of the "law enforcement" people were no better than "legalized mafia" and "scam artists" - so - things HAVE become better, but they will never be PERFECT - don't hate all, because of the actions of a few - one of the things i learned when i became a "supervisor", some years ago, was the you "spend 90% of your time, dealing with 10% of your staff" - meaning simply that most of your people do what they are supposed to do - the other 10% are your "problem children" and eat up most of your time disciplining them - the same is true for the "rotten apples" in the Police Depts. - they are only a small percentage HAVE A COUPLE COLD ONES , ON ME MATE |
