After 9/11 the US couldn't stomach the attacks and the fact that they didn't see it coming. To save face, the Bush administration and the secret services had to find a scapegoat fast. They had to be seen as doing something, they had to make people believe that they knew who was responsible for the attacks. They quickly homed onto Bin Laden, thanks to a "confession tape" magically found in an unknown flat in Pakistan. (check youtube for video analisys). The connection between 9/11 and Bin Laden was then made! America could officially go to war against him and his group. Bush, the FBI and The Pentagon had saved their seats because American now believed they had a competent leadership who knew who their ennemy was, it was just a matter of finding him.

or 4) Islamic Extremists planned, trained, carried out and succeded in the attack. (Like The Crusades).
