Absolutely right. Ever wonder why ALL the media focus has been on the ridiculous "Olympic torch" rather than the anti-communist dissidents who have been completely ignored by the media. If the truth about communist China were to really be known the world would be outraged and the Beijing Olympics would never happen. Beijing, with no little help from media magnate Rupert Murdoch's worldwide media empire, a substantial Chinese media stake of which he owns (and is married to a Chinese woman), is being cleverly presented and made to look like a non-issue by directing all the attention on the assinine torch and the prearranged rent-a-protester's which show up for the predictable media circus act. In reality communist China is a nightmarish hellhole.

Yes, Communist China is such a hell-hole... When it embarked upon building the Three Gorges Dam in the '90's, now nearing completion, it undertook the greatest civil engineering project in history. They relocated and built entire villages, even small cities to house millions of people, absolutely free. In fact, in many instances, these citizens now live in modern concrete, condominium style apartments, with modern anemities, that they could never have been able to afford themselves.

With a project of this size, there are always bound to be problems. The fact of the matter is, if China is such a hell-hole, then this project would never have even been considered in a democratic country. This single project will eliminate thousands of tons of coal emissions that China relies on today... Not to mention the sheer power from 32 of the largest electrical generators in the world. Nothing's perfect, buddy.

You made the point of it being the "greatest civil engineering project" ... what a load of rubbish ... even the communist Chinese engineering consultant's have admitted short-sightedness in the long term disasterous environmental and other side effects and that they've made the mistake of putting economic gain over the human cost. Something is far worse than "problematic" when even the communist's are admitting failure. And the so called coal carbon being saved on has been debunked as the full extent of environmental damage caused by this "civil engineering" disaster is forecast to far exceed any coal carbon emissions supposedly averted. This is not about "being perfect" or "inherent problems" or "civil engeering", this is nothing short of typical criminal communism in action.
There has never been a project undertaken by any government at any time in the history of mankind that is the Three Gorges Dam. That qualifies it as the 'greatest' civil engineering project in history... This is the modern 'Great Wall' of China, which, in it's time, was the greatest civil engineering project in history. The technological problems are in the ship lock systems built into the dam which have been by-passed with an independent, conventional ship lock. The Three Gorges Dam will provide energy into perpetuity for Southeast Asia. I believe it will survive any criticism you or anyone has of it.
