FYI I LOVE meat, I've also killed pheasants, fish and chickens to eat in my time. I'd kill any animal for food if I was confident I would have the ability to make it quick. I see no problem in killing humanly for food. This is killing for "sport" and to top it off it's not even fucking sporting. I am a hunter. Having said that, I too am against killing for fun.(Unless were talking about terrorists) I only kill what I intend to eat, and I make sure whatever I shoot dies. And you're right, hunting is necesary to control animal populations that get out of hand.

I understand that a real hunters prey has a chance to see, hear or smell the hunter. While I don't think this makes it ok, I can at least see how someone else would enjoy the "sport" in that case.
