This round (beehive) has been used for decades. I think it's in the process of being outlawed for some stupid reason.
Beehive is an anti-personnel round fired from an artillery or tank gun, packed full of metal darts called flechettes.

New ammo? This stuff has been around for ages. This is a simple Cannister Shot for anti personell purposes. Both my father and I are ex 1st Armoured Regiment (Australian Army). While I never had the chance to use this particular ammo in combat but my father has. He was in Vietnam during the Tet offensive early in '68. He reckons the cannister shot mows them down like ten-pins. After one battle in particular (Fire Support Base Coral) he said that after the battle there was something like 2000+ dead nogs just on his side of the perimeter and most of them were brought down by cannister. It's basically buck-shot on steroids

No. It's real. Software can keep up with high velocity projectiles. Think about the Phalanx missile defenses on ships. Or the Skyshield anti-mortar defense. BTW, this is the XM1028 120mm Cannister round. Considering how many targets it hit (and their elevations) I'd say it's a pretty badass shell.

Well the 5 1/2 years i spent driving around the range at pukka in an M113 (with 1st Armoured Regt in support) gives me a bit more of an insight than most. I've not only seen them fired a number of times but can tell you that those little darts are EVERYWHERE down there. In some areas forests of trees are covered in them. My comment is refering to the term the blackhats (Armoured Corp) and us grunts use for that particular round. This includes the Artillery version...

That was test footage from a canister round. It is an anti personnel round. Tanks have 5 different rounds: MPAT, HEAT, Sabot, Canister, And OR. That one is good out to about 600m. Sabot will kill a tank at 3500m.

Think about that...The Round uses pure kinetic energy! I've heard stories about tank crews being sucked out of the exit hole the round creates but I that's a myth. Still sounds pretty cool though.
