Even though the sheriff was a bit extreme in his reaction, you gotta love how the kid goes from acting like a punk at the beginning to saying "sir" more times than someone at fucking boot camp by the end.

ok, following what you say, i love to play guitar, but i can't play loud because it would disturb others, therefore i have to be considerate and keep it at a volume so it doesn't bother other people. these punks were on private property, and if they don't want to be arrested, well dur go to a place where skating is allowed instead of trying to be tough kids on youtube and rebel against other people.

It would have been better if the kid had rode up the plank and the can rolls away and the kid broke his arm.

I think the problem might occur in regards to the legalities and liability if one of the kids got hurt on the property.

I can understand where you're coming from, and as far as the 'empty parking lot' thing, I'm sure the liability issue plays a major role.
But there is one other thing you have to understand about kids in America (I'm not assuming to speak for kids elsewhere) and that is: Kids these days (in general, I know there are good kids out there too) have absolutely no respect for authority (as evidenced here) they have no respect for other people's property, and they have no respect for their parents, simply because corporal punishment will land their parents in jail. Kids need to learn otherwise, and behave not only responsibly, but to learn that everything out there is not their's for the taking, which seems to be their attitude.

There are very few places for kids to go these days unless they have money. I went to the grocery store night before last and there were tons of kids hanging out in the parking lot. It was kinda weird. They had nowhere else to go? Whatever, I didn't care cuz they were just kids but some people get freaked out by that.

Slam is right. Private means private. Regardless of it being empty or not. Liability doesn't come in to it.
If a place is fenced off and access is limited I can understand "private property". But an outdoor lot that is used by hundreds of people all the time...nuh uh....then its just selective enforcement of private property.

If it is private property then nobody should be there, unless given permission by the owner. If the property is open to the public, then the owner of the property must have public liability insurance.
In this particular case the owner did not give them consent to be in this area They were trespassing and breaking the law. They shouldn't have been there at all, so liability shouldn't come in to it.
I can not stand this compensation attitude of today, when people break the law, get hurt and then try for some compensation.
If you break the law you should take responsibility for your own actions.
It seems to me that everybody today wants something for nothing and it really PISSES ME OFF.

Agree with your logic on the way it ought to be. Too bad the property owner would be dragged into defending against or paying for what the little sh*ts do wrong. I am in the insurance biz and I want to vomit every time I see a case like this.

That kid didn't get arrested. The officer just put cuffs on him and put him in the car to scare him and the others, it's been done to me a bunch of times when I was younger. After everyone leaves he'll probably drop you off at your house and tell your parents so they can kick your ass, if they'er good parents of course.

Here, when the policeman would arrive he would only find the kids, with axes in their head orwith broken legs siting on the road for skating in someone elses garden. Self property is a very important thing here. No metter how old are you.. He's a lucky guy. The americans seems to have more patience.. The owner and the kids both.
