Ironically, this is the same move every single kid under the age of 10 does when he's in a fight. It's a little less effective though.

If it were straight boxing you would be right, but it is called MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) which includes fighting on your back. In fact when someone gets knocked to the ground you will see the guy standing up try to stomp the guy on the ground. Gracie just got him first!

since when does "gracie" mean brazilian Jujitsu? gracie is a surname. the fighter who won was renzo gracie and the fighter who lost was oleg taktarov. this was 1 year after oleg won the 8-man tournament at UFC 6.
