Yes, the police officer can break in, but he shouldn't have taken out the windows. He SHOULD have kicked down the door, or found another door to enter. Breaking windows allows oxygen to enter the house, essentially fueling the fire. All a fire needs to burn is ignition, fuel, and oxygen. Slowing down the amount of oxygen would at least help limit the fire.

Also, if he went through the door, he could CLOSE the door to stop the flow of oxygen after he entered/exited.

Oh yeah, and he tried to break into the wrong house. That's pretty bad too.

I'm British. (As most of the regulars know) So forgive me for failing to understand why the police in the US&A refer to themselves as 'the police department' and not just 'the police' as we do here in Britain.

ya man they are called the police department because thats what they are. I don't know how Britain works but here the law enforcment is a broken up into different "departments" that are usually named for the county, city, or region that they cover and that department is paid for by the tax payers who live in that area. Like NYPD ( New York Police Department) or BPD ( Boston Police Department) its just the blanket term we use to cover all the law enforcment in that area.....we also use it for firemen which is call the Fire Department.

To avoid confusion the justice department decided to have cops say "its the police department".
