Contrary to what most of the ignorant rants here are bitching about the officer did not overreact, use excessive force and was not being a powertripping "dick". He had prior contact with the suspect, knew him to be prone to violence towards LEOs and took what he thought was reasonable action at the time. Unfortunately he ended up dead for not being a bit more tactically sound (two people in the car usually ends up with them being taken out of the car at gunpoint, not sprayed with OC spray) with the stop, but that's life.

There is a part of me that really hopes one of these days some of you on this forum get an opportunity to become a bit more educated about a profession you deride with your pitiful ignorance. But I think it is easier for you to muster up the "courage" needed to sit behind a computer and anonymously talk shit about the men and women you envy than to have the guts stand by them and share the responsibility and the danger. Because for all your tough talk, all of you still yell for us when your asses are on the line and you need someone to make the bad guys leave you alone. Another part of me cheerfully wishes for nothing more than for you to fuck off and die. Whichever one you pick is fine by me.

On the contrary, the cop was a posterboy for authoritarian assholes, and had it coming. This is why you shouldn't spend your life being a jackass to people: you never know when someone is going to push back. Hard.

I've encountered many cops and most were assholes that wish they had what it takes to be in the military but ate too many doughnuts to pass muster, but that still doesn't mean they should be shot in the back. Sounds like those two had beef way before this and this was just the tipping point.
