As with any internal injury, there's the dangers of uncontrolled bleeding and if the stomach or intestines are pierced then you've got bile and just a shitload of bacteria which can then cause an infection of your entire system.
I believe an earlier poster talking, knowledgably, about ER activities with internal injuries mentioned a profound stink....this would be a compromised bowel.
After that, infection from a condition called sepsis is a huge danger and life threatening situation.

In regard to shitting inside oneself; A friend of mine used to work in the ER on the south side of Chicago...lots of gun shot wounds comin in there...any in the abdomen resulted in big time shit stink...shit everywhre....she hated that.
