That kid did not want to fight, that was clear. He was in a "lose-lose" situation. He could have kicked the shit out of the old guy, looked like a dickhead, and maybe gotten jumped as a result. Or he could have just taken what gramps had to offer, which wasn't much, and bear a few scapes and a hurt ego. I think he made the right choice. On a side note, this is typical.
