Your quite right. The ban on handguns here in the UK had very little effect on the gun crime stats. However, the amount of deaths directly linked to guns would have been significantly higher had the weapon laws been "less harsh" beforehand. There are about 25,000 deaths in the US every year linked to guns (including suicide and accidents). That is 40 times higher the rate of deaths in the UK through guns.

You may be right, maybe more guns do result in less crime/murders. At the end of the day it all depends on the person who's carrying it and whether they have the common sense to act responsibly.

People who do this kind of thing must know right from wrong and have a chance to seek help but choose not to. I don't understand.

Rather then ban guns from colleges maybe they should allow people with concealed weapons permits to carry. With the amount of marines coming back from war and going to college that alone would make classes the safest place around.
