If I remember correctly the rioting was the result of the Rodney King verdict so I can understand why a community was so enraged but for some reason when certain communities get wronged they can never think any further than destruction and mayhem. If people could just channel all that energy into something constructive and specific they would accomplish so much more but alas the norm is displayed above and as long as this is their response to being wrong they will always be regarded as inferior.

What a horrible day that was. The outrage was understandable but these people went out and destroyed their own neighborhoods. A far cry from a protest march which would have garnered much more sympathy and support from the rest of the country.
@ Umm yeah & toosmooth.... It's hard for people of lower intelligence to realize that one shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush because of the actions of the few. They're too dumb to grasp the idea of individuality. Unfortunately, for many racists, this is how their parents raised them. They're stuck in a pre-1950's rut. It's easier to blame other people for shortcomings when really all one has to look in the mirror to see who is at fault.

In regards to the video, it was only a matter of time before the black community's frustration got to the point that it needed some sort of widespread release. The widespread media attention of police beating a black man just as they do white people was more or less the spark the ignited the powder keg.
Racism is quite widespread in America, even if it is just a black joke between a couple white kids who would never go out and commit a hate crime, it is obvious there are racist sentiments deep seeded in American society, and as pathetic as it is, 130 years after slavery was officially ended there are still those who cannot view people equally just because of skin color. Other than a racial slur, "nigger" is defined in the dictionary as an ignorant person. Racists, in my opinion (and i hope you can forgive my use of the word) are "niggers" all around, using such a definition. And I know the last thing a white racist wants to be known as is a "nigger". Racism is simply ignorance on display at its best (or worst).
@Gildorg: Im with you on the military training thing. Being busted down to the same level as everyone else and being simply pieces of shit will get you to accept people of different race. What branch did you serve?

Allow an old man to be wordy (I will try to keep it brief for me); I served my country as proudly as I could. I was always sickly and could never perform to my level of desire. My Grandfather (Papa) was a CMH winner in WW2. That kind of thing is not unnoticed when you enlist. I would not say I was given special treatment... If anything it made it harder as I was the second smallest guy in my Unit at Boot in San Diego.
We still had Marine Drill Instructors back then. Mine happened to be three-tour Vietnam Vets! To this day, I know I want to hunt and kill every Commie that I might come across... I don't really know why, I just know I need too!
Everyone's perspective is going to be different and everyone's life experiences are going to shape them differently. I am a half-breed. I have a Spanish last name. I grew up in a Redneck (for lack of a better word) town and was used to being called the "Light Skinned Spic". The Hispanics didn't accept me because I was too Castellan. The Blacks didn't trust me because they didn't know how to classify me... The few Orientals, well they just ignored everybody but their own group...
In any case, I lived through a War (which I proudly took part), two bouts with Cancer, a failed marriage (mostly my fault), many deaths that I could have done more too prevent... I just know that with the time I have left, I wish to enjoy myself. I have my very opinioned opinions... (Wow, Redundancy). I just know I can defend my Conservative Republican points of views, because I have never really changed them. You live long enough, you learn how to communicate a little better (at least you hope you do!!!).
In any case, God Bless all of our Brothers and Sisters who are presently serving our Great Nation. (Sorry, I got news that a family member died today serving...)

I live in the south, in an area where the black/white ratio is around 50/50. From what ive experienced and witnessed in my years of living here, I have never once heard a white person use the "N" word or treat a black person differently than how he treats his friends. If anything, the redneck kids seem to want to be a part of black culture, and listen to their music and go to the same parties and concerts. But the black-on-white racism in the school system is so horrible that teachers have sued, quit, and been fired because of it. The black students curse out the teachers and threaten them but get off because "it's part of their culture" according to the primarily black school board. I really just wish everyone could get along, One of my best friends is mixed and he has a black mother and white father and its nice to see 2 communities joined like that.
