Nothing like this ever happens at my mall. One time a bum was drinking out of the wishing fountain, but that's about it.

Those guys were security? No uniforms. No radio. And the crowd was demanding to see their badges and they didn't do it. If they were actual security, they suck. They didn't handle that guy very well. ![]()

Hmmm...I'd like more info on this. Those guys didn't seem very professional at all, but then again the kid was whining and being a little prick. He should have saved himself some dignity and just went along with the rent-a-cops. If they didn't conduct themselves properly he could have had em for a good many charges. But for God's sake if you're going to put up a fight...at least make it a decent one where you aren't crying about it. ![]()

This happened in Toronto. That's why there should never be such things as plain-clothed security guards (or rent-a-cops). The crowd just assumed it was some sort of scuffle between a few idiots (believe me, there are many idiots in Toronto). Instead of just yelling "call 9-1-1!" how about identifying yourselves first, idiots? I'm not justifying what the asshole thief did, but the guards would've made the whole situation a lot easier to deal with if they'd actually, like, MENTIONED the fact that they're guards in the first place.

I'm in Toronto, never seen a security without Uniform :o, I saw a fight though 2 mall securities cuffing 3 black dudes.

Having done Security in the past, you often have very little to identify yourself with if you are undercover. I agree with the poster above, the crowd should stay out of it. Idiots, they could end going to jail with the whiney bitch on the ground.
Punching him in the face might of been excessive, but if he wasn't resisting in the first place, then he wouldn't have been hit. I hate thieves!

I work as a Security Officer and have had my part in many violent arrests. The force that the two "plain clothes" (notice I did not say undercover) investigators (if you wear plain clothes, than you are licensed as a private investigator... unless it's in house security) was justified. If you are attempting to arrest somebody and they resist, than you must get them under control. The thief resisted, and so the two investigators used "soft empty hand techniques" (grabbing and restraining." This did not work, so the investigators increased their level of force to "hard empty hand techniques" to affect the arrest. Also, when you are in the middle of a strenuous physical arrest, and people bother you with questions and suggestions, it annoys the fuck out of you! Good job on the both of these Guys!

If this was in Canada what was up with the idiot yelling to "read him rights!"
Even in the US, if you're not asking questions you don't have to read them their rights. That always kills me when someone spouts off about how they know their rights.
Way too many people watching cop shows on tv!

i know it sounds very cartman-esque but god damn i hate hippies. "why you gotta punch him the face"... this guy knew damn well who the people were that were grabbing him, plain clothes are not... he kept yelling "i didn't do anything wrong!" rather than "who are you!? or... what are you doing". i'm not a low life thief... so if i were in the mall and some rentacops accused me of stealing i would comply... and the first thing i would do is get the real cops... which is exactly what the rent a cops asked the pussy hippies to do. man i just hate hippies sooo much... "read him his rights" you don't have to read someone their fucking rights while they resist arrest you fucking hippy piece of shit

First of all, I love all the bleeding hearts in the crowd yelling, "Show your badge". Yeah ok dumbshit in the crowd let me get up from what Im doing and get that for you(Moron). Second some of you need to look up Miranda Vs. Arizona and learn what the hell Miranda rights are before you spout off your stupid idotic uneducated remarks. CSI is a fucking Hollywood show not the officers guide to Law Enforcement. Nobody likes a jailhouse lawyer except the low lifes that are in custody. Also, you can use any force neccessary in order to affect an arrest. If that means punching him in the face in order for him to free his hands then thats that. But if your a half decent human being that obeys the law then you should'nt have to worry about these things.
Loss prevention officers are plain clothes, thats how they catch scumbag thiefs. Wouldn't work very well if you were wandering around the store in full uniform no would it. And as far as the cops coming and kicking the security guards ass as on other person above mentioned. The cops should have shown up and applauded there arrest. Maybe if more theives got a beat down when they stole something they would think twice before they did it.

Tornado: if the guards didn't identify themselves from the beginning, then they should have. However, mid way through the scuffle the crowd accepted that they were security guards but they STILL interfered with the arrest, so I don't know how much that would've helped.

Buddy, you dont know what you're talking about. When someone is being arrested, they have to be read their rights. The people watching the incident saw him getting cuffed, which he presumed meant the guy was getting arrested, at which time they have to read you your rights.
On another note they didnt use excessive force. The guy tried to steal shit and got caught, if he was stealing from me I'd beat his ass more than that.

Dont tase me bro!
1.I hate wanna be cops, they have the same powers as a civillian.
2.Correct procedure is to forcibly drag the suspect quickly in to the back room where there are no witnesses. ![]()

excessive force much? why didnt anyone call the cops O.o it wouldve been more entertaining and maybe a few rent-a-cops would have gotten there ass's handed to them by real cops
