WEATHER BULLETIN Up here, in the "Mile-Hi City", we just recovered from a Historic event may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI: George Bush did not come. FEMA did nothing. > No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either. CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody expected the government to do anything, either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Sean Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found. Nope, we just melted the snow for water. Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die". We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. "In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate." It does seem that way, at least to me. I hope this gets passed on. Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.

Regarding VinnieBarusa’s comment: Your position on government involvement in natural disasters and in providing overall assistance are a little skewed, especially in relation to your overarching messages, which are that black people and perhaps other races are incapable of fending for themselves, and the ridiculous notion that latitude is a good indicator of social woes. Firstly, I would say that your example of the Colorado blizzard actually works against you, because if you live in Denver, you would know that is hardly a “white” city. Taking your argument to a racial level really is unnecessary; it would have sufficed for you to point out the differences in attitude and response without resorting to such flimsy logic. Second, as you point out, the snow did indeed melt. A blizzard, even a category five one, is not even in the same universe of magnitude as Hurricane Katrina. Think about it, blizzards are a yearly event in the West, while a hurricane passing nearly right over New Orleans is something that though it was expected could not ever really be guarded against. This leads me into my second point which is that it is ignorant to blame the social problems that exist in the lower latitudes on the color of someone’s skin or the effects of the natural world. The theory of environmental determinism was debunked around 1920. People who live in the lower latitudes were the most heavily colonized people in the world. There is a huge difference between the “settler colonies” like the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, where the objective was to displace and eradicate the indigenous people in order to create “New Englands” and “New Zealands” (Zealand is an area of the Netherlands) etc. and those colonies where the objective was to subdue and enslave indigenous people in order to take as much wealth from an area as possible. I think if you look closely at former colonies you will see that those areas that have fewer social ills are those where the native people were wiped out and the colonizers came to stay. This does not mean that the apparent lack of problems is attributable to the fact that the native people were wiped out. Think of it this way, if they were not wiped out the area would suffer from more social ills because the native people would have to suffer with the legacy of colonialism, if they are largely dead then there wouldn’t be as many problems because that legacy becomes buried. It is not racial, because the social ills did not exist (at such a high degree) before colonization but only after. So the two choices are brutalize people and create the problems, or kill them off and have fewer problems. Clearly, both of these are not just or ethical actions. The colonies that were set up to be producers of wealth solely have more social ills, not because the people are less intelligent, but because they were brutalized in the names of greed and religion. Take South America for example. The southern cone of South American (Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile) is the most European area of the continent while the remainder is made up of countries that were not originally designed to be settler colonies. Instead, the Spanish and the Portuguese, and to some degree the British, French, and Dutch used them for making money. The problem is not racial- that is far too simplistic an answer. Finally, I’d like to point out that there are all kinds of social problems north of your arbitrarily conceived 48th parallel. Even in more liberal Canada, they are still trying to make amends for the terrible treatment the Dene and Inuit Indians received at the hands of the fur trappers and traders long ago; problems that are now plaguing the Arctic with out of control alcoholism and other abuses. Clearly, the native peoples are partly responsible for their situation. This includes Native Americans in the U.S. as well, who underwent an unprecedented eradication and assimilation process. My point is that it is ridiculous to look to race as the cause for social ills. You need to open your eyes a little wider and look for the true causes, which are much harder to wrap your mind around than some early-twentieth century theory that says that people who live closer to the equator are dumber because the sun’s rays are more direct there. Seriously, look at ancient Egypt. I’m willing to bet that if it had been colonized as a money maker then the social advancements associated with that civilization would never have happened.

Hey Chuck31, I was in an electronics store last night in the computer section and hip hop music (I use that term loosely) was blasting out of a pair of speakers. After hearing the "artist" (also use that term loosely) peel off 4 or 5 "N" words inside 90 seconds, I look for who I think might be the manager. I pick the oldest looking guy in the area and he points to a young black man as being the manager. He calls his name out several times but the kid can't hear him because the music is so fucking loud. He finally acknowledges the older guy but doesn't bother turning around to look at him. The older guy said that I wanted to speak to him so he comes over to where I'm standing. I told him that I didn't appreciate hearing some guy blast the "N" word a bunch of times with my children present. He said he didn't notice and I said that I bet if I walked through the store and yelled the "N" word four or five times that he would surely notice that. BUT if I go in and start shouting "NIGGER!!!!" not only would I be escorted out the door but I probably would have a mob waiting for me outside AND Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would come running for their apology that they normally demand when something like this happens. That would be followed by sensitivity classes, etc.

To all the black people complaining about racism I have a couple of things to say. Only in black culture can you find adults that think it is acceptable to treat their kids like pit bulls and other adults that find it not only acceptable but to be good entertainment. If memory serves there was about a dozen arrests, all the adults that could be identified, resulting from this video. The same holds true for all the cases of kids, often toddlers, being taught how to smoke dope. You just don't see this in other ethnic groups in the US. Even if it is a small uneducated percentage of your population that finds this OK, it still exists when it shouldn't and whatever racist feelings a person may harbor are lent credence when they see this kind of stuff and they surface.
My formula to end racism is very simple, end all segregated college funds, pageants and organizations. It is unconstitutional and no other group can exclude you based on your race so stop doing to other ethnic groups. Dr. MLK DIED to end segregation get with the program. Stop punishing your people that make it in society. It does not make you a sell out to get out of the ghetto on a scholastic, rather than athletic scholarship. Beat Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton severely, on camera, while a narrator talks about the harm they have inflicted on race relations then post it here. Take Ray Nagin to task in a similar manner for all the ignorant stuff he keeps spouting. The fact that people where stranded in the flood waters was his fault. As mayor he was responsible for evacuating those people in his city, to shelter before the disaster. Shoot and kill Louis Farrakahn (sp?) and all his senior henchmen, once again on video posted here. When one of your race that is respected, educated and successful takes your culture to task as Bill Cosby tried to do, listen to him rather than call him an Uncle Tom for telling you that it is time to join society. That leads us to the next issue which is in kind, refocus the NAACP on taking your culture to task and help them with the undertaking. They made a good start with the symbolic funeral and associated call to action over the use of the word "nigger" by blacks. Apparently they are looking for a new direction to focus their influence, give them one that helps not only your culture but society. Then only the truly ignorant would be able to harbor racist tendencies.
