Driving to work this morning on the freeway, I looked over to my left and there was a woman in a Ford doing 65 miles per hour with her face up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner! This has nothing to do with paying $2. Get your facts straight. Location: The Rotterdamseweg in Schipluiden The Netherlands, about 10 KM south of The Hague. The installation is there to demotivate drivers to use this route as an alternative for the highway A13. It lets cars through one by one, and every time a cars has gone through, the one following has to stop, for a maximum of 30 seconds.

And just so you know, demotivate while technically correct, is not used. The word you want is either deter (from the Latin deterrere meaning 'to frighten'), dissuade (Latin dissuadere meaning 'to advise'), or discourage (From the old French descouragier, literally, to 'away' (remove) courage).
