I know gas prices are high, but it's not worth pulling out a gun and getting killed over. The thing I don't understand is, the cops release a K9, then when the guy opens fire on it, they kill him. Seems strange, but I'm not a cop.

K9's are considered cops. If you strike a police canine, you are charged with assault on a police officer.
